Instructor: Abstract:

Dr. Sulkowicz is speaking about some of the emotional challenges that leaders face when their organization is in crisis. He will be drawing upon his work advising leaders over the past 25 years, and especially upon his work during the pandemic. He will also draw upon his experience as President-elect of the American Psychoanalytic Association. The talk will be informal, reflecting on the internal and external dimensions of crisis, and their impact on leaders' ability to maintain followership, adapt organizational strategy and tactics, and respond to the practical and emotional needs of the group, all the while trying to stay true to the organization's mission and values. He will also be addressing some of the ways a psychoanalytic perspective can be helpful to leaders during times of crisis, and possible implications for the field.
