Seth Pitman, PhD, ABPP, and Steven Ackerman, PhD, MBA, ABPP, will emphasize the importance of preserving the depth of patient experience while incorporating measurable outcome assessment, and how measurement-based care (MBC) can support a more nuanced understanding of patient experiences when implemented within a psychodynamic framework.
2025 Grand Round Series: Seth Pitman, PhD, ABPP, and Steven Ackerman, PhD, MBA, ABPP
The purpose of this talk is to explore how to effectively integrate measurement-based care (MBC) into psychodynamic clinical practice, focusing on how it can enhance patient outcomes and contribute to meaningful research. The presentation will emphasize the importance of preserving the depth of patient experience while incorporating measurable outcome assessment, and how MBC can support a more nuanced understanding of patient experiences when implemented within a psychodynamic framework. While psychodynamic clinicians may be resistant to MBC due to concerns about its alignment with traditional therapeutic approaches, the talk will argue that growth within the field requires curiosity and a willingness to push beyond traditional boundaries. Practical strategies will be provided for clinicians to initiate MBC projects that stem from their own clinical observations, treatment approaches, and personal professional identities, offering a clear pathway to integrating personal expertise into these initiatives.
